  1. In Manitoba, the holiday is called “Louis Riel Day” and in Prince Edward Island, the holiday is called “Islander Day”.
  2. Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador usually celebrate this holiday, but the employer is not obliged to pay the employee.
  3. In Manitoba, most industries are not authorized to be open for business on Remembrance Day. Most employers pay their employees for this holiday, but they are not obliged to do so. Those that are authorized must be paid as they would be for other types statutory holidays. In Nova Scotia, if an employee is obliged to work on Remembrance Day and he or she has worked at least 15 of the 30 days preceding this holiday, he or she is entitled to paid leave on an agreed upon work day. In Alberta, employers have the choice of giving either Remembrance Day or Boxing Day off.
